HPV Vaccine should not be postponed! Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is responsible for causing cancer of the cervix, penis, anus, mouth and throat. Logically, you’d think that when people are told of a vaccine that could prevent future cancers, they’d leap at the chance to protect them. Well, it can’t be more false! As of 2014, only less than 40% of girls received their first dose of HPV vaccine. VaxCorp Indonesia© collected the reasons why, and would be glad to reveal the truth.
“Why does my child need HPV Vaccine? S/he is not yet sexually active.”
This is the most common reason for the low rate of HPV vaccine transmission among young teens. However, it is best to keep in mind that not all sexual activity is consensual. Exposure to HPV does not even need an actual penetration; all it takes is a skin-to-skin contact. Who can foretell what unfortunate occurrence that might happen, these days?
In addition, children aged 9-14 years old only require 2 (two), not 3 (three) doses of the HPV Vaccine. This is due to their higher immune response. That being said, it is also financially beneficial to vaccinate your child at an early age rather than wait. Since the vaccine needs to only be done once (3-doses serial) in a lifetime, why wait?
“I’m sure I will not commit any sexual contact, even if it is not consensual.”
Some people can be so sure about committing abstinence, whether it is being consensual or not. However, skin-to skin contacts can happen indirectly. This also means, you can also get HPV from places you expect the least such as changing room benches at the gym or your doctors’ examination tables. Are you still sure to skip the HPV vaccine shots?
I don’t need HPV Vaccine until I am 5 years away from marriage.
Getting well-informed with the protection period, society has more carefully “re-defined” the right age to receive HPV vaccine shots. Fact is, both HPV vaccine provides protection for longer than 5 years, much longer. It is also important to note that HPV vaccine shots are going to be less effective if given to people aged more than 25. Still, it is not too late to immunize yourselves if you did not get the vaccine when you were younger.
